I came to this work after discovering the incredible benefit of having a doula myself during the birth of my first daughter and in the initial weeks following her arrival. Feeling empowered and supported greatly eased my own journey into parenthood.
Having also had the great fortune of being present at births prior to my own, I knew that I felt in my element in the presence of this powerful, transformative life event even before I knew about doula work as a profession.
Around the world, women have been supporting one another during and after childbirth for much of human history. I believe there is a reason for this, and that now, maybe more than ever, support for women and their partners through labor and during the early postpartum period is of utmost importance.
"As a father, Jess helped me think through my role in a manner I would never have been able to do on my own." - Andy G.
As a doula, I am privileged to act as support and witness to the incredible process of birth and the early weeks postpartum. Birth has the capacity to be a positive, empowering, life-transforming event, whether it is your first birth or your fourth. Women and their partners who seek out support and mentorship during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period are apt to find more ease, joy, and resilience during what is invariably a challenging time. I have a profound reverence for birth and the growth that ensues for each member of the family.
I trained and obtained certification as a labor and postpartum doula with Doula Trainings International. In October 2017 I became a Certified Lactation Counselor. I am also certified in the use of the Rebozo, as well as Infant and Child CPR.
In addition, I am a founding member of the Ithaca Doula Collective, a professional doula collective in Ithaca, NY.
